Sawing operations began in the parish of Tervola in the early 20th century. Janne Vaara bought the iron parts of a circular saw from Swedish sawmills and built the wooden parts himself. Since then, the processing of the northern wood has been an important part of the activities of the Vaara family.
In addition to courage and resilience, there has been one guideline running through the three generations of their 100-year-old-history – the uncompromising work ethic of a timberman. As the fourth generation takes the reins, an instruction given by their great-grandfather still stands: “Keep the blade in shape and saw people’s logs well and honestly, so a good reputation is maintained.”
